FSST Education Department

The FSST Education Center is located in the Wicoicaga Otipi Community Center to provide programs to the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal members: the Johnson O’Malley Program, the FSST Student Meals Program, BIA/AVT Higher Education, FSST Student Assistance Scholarship Program, and learning center for community members.

  • Johnson O’Malley Program/638 Contract

The Johnson O’Malley Program is funded by the BIA to meet the special academic, social and cultural needs of Indian students in public, BIA and tribal schools. These funds help provide, among other things, tutoring services and school supplies to students.

  • FSST Student Meals Program (K-12)

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe has established a program to financially assist FSST Members with K-12 student meals. This program is specifically geared toward FSST members that reside in Moody County and whose children attend either the Flandreau Public School or the Colman-Egan School.

  • BIA/AVT Higher Education/638 Contract

The BIA/AVT Higher Education/638 Contract funds are appropriated by Congress and are intended to aid and encourage Indian students in their pursuit of Adult Vocational Training and Higher Education opportunities.

  • Higher Education-FSST Student Assistance Scholarships

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe encourages its membership to continue their education beyond High School. Student Assistance Scholarships were specifically established to encourage, assist and support FSST members in their pursuit of Adult Vocational Training and Higher Education opportunities.

Enrollment

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Enrollment office is available to assist in the application process for tribal enrollment along with providing many services to the FSST tribal membership, such as maintaining vital historical records which is essential to establish ancestry.

Office hours are Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Natural Resources

To provide and ensure the proper management of all tribal lands held in trust by the United States Government. Through optimal resource management improve the overall conditions and values of tribal lands, whereby increasing the economic and general welfare of all tribal people.

This program ensures that tribal lands held in trust are protected from waste and degradation. It improves the quality of community life through the betterment of the parks and recreational facilities available on those lands held in trust. It protects those lands held in trust from environmental hazards and safeguards the resources on trust lands from soil degradation.

Judicial Services

Provide Judicial Services within the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal jurisdiction. This includes maintaining the Tribal Court System on the Flandreau Santee Sioux Indian Reservation which will provide due process to juvenile, civil and criminal litigants and defendants consistent with the maintenance of law and order on the Reservation.

Housing Authority

Housing in the Indian community consists of HUD low-rent housing projects and individual scattered sites. The Tribal Housing Authority manages the housing program,and provides maintenance.

Shelli Marshall our FSST Housing Authority Director is also a member of the Flandreau Methamphetamine Community Coalition.

Law Enforcement

Provides Law Enforcement. This includes providing law enforcement services for all lands within the boundaries of the City of Flandreau and on all trust lands under the jurisdiction of the Tribe.

Social Services

The purpose of this program is to establish, operate and administer a Social Services Department to increase the accessibility and efficiency of services provided to children and families on the FSST reservation.

Flandreau Santee Sioux Trive Child Care Program

The Child Care Program for the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is designed as a voucher program to assist income eligible Native American families meet their needs for affordable and quality child care. Eligible families will receive a percentage of their child care paid by this program using a sliding fee scale based on income and family size once the family’s percentage is paid to their provider.

Tribal Maintenance Department

The Maintenance Department is responsible for the maintenance of all property of the FSST and Federally funded programs, such as repairing equipment and buildings, lawn care and snow removal.

Road Maintenance

The Program provides, plans and schedules maintenance to preserve and restore the FSST’s system of roadways in a way to protect the environment of the reservation and adjacent lands.

Grace Moore Senior Citizens Center

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribes Senior Citizens Center is located at 612 South Center Street in Flandreau, the Center offers a special retreat for our Elderly members.

Each day, Monday through Friday the Center is open from 7 am until 3 pm. Members, spouses, friends and family are more than welcome to utilize the facilities and all that the Center has available.

“We are very thankful for and enjoy the south side view, comfortable surroundings, and sunny location. Furthermore, we like the community center-type atmosphere and homemade-style meals each day.” said Director Gayle Soward

Noon meals are served for a suggested donation price and “guest” price as well. The menus are planned with the greatest of thought and the meals are prepared and served with pride and care. Nutrition guidelines and elderly needs and preferences are considered as well.

Seniors citizens are welcome to “make themselves at home” at the Center. They can relax, read the newspaper, work on puzzles, play games, watch television, or simply visit with friends.

The Grace Moore Senior Center is truly a wonderful gift to our community. All Elders will find involvement opportunities, activities, and a time to socialize with other elders!

Counseling Center

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Counseling Center is located in the Front of the Wellness Center (Old Bingo Hall). The program provides services for Mental Health,Substance Abuse and Prevention.

Tribal Health Clinic

The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Health Clinic is an ambulatory facility of the Indian Health Service (IHS). The facility is diverse in the fact that it offers Medical and Dental Services to the local tribal community.

Mission Statement

To provide a wellness facility and programs that incorporate medical, physical, personal, social, preventative, educational, and computerized aspects to promote health in an encouraging environment with modern and safe equipment.
